A CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS OF FAVORITE RECIPES & PHOTOS

At Total Local, we know the power of community. We know that people are stronger when standing together with others than they are when standing alone. That’s why we publish our Community Resource Guides, in order to put readers in connection with the events, services and organizations in their area. Now we’d also like to publish your photos and favorite recipes in our guides to give the Community Resource Guides even more local flair.

SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR YOUR COMMUNITY

In a modern world where people are becoming increasingly isolated, taking part in your community is more important than ever. It is well known that people who feel they are part of a community are generally healthier and more satisfied with their life. One of the most common ways people in a community connect with each other is over food. Friends and families have been eating together and swapping recipes with each other for as long as anyone can remember.

SPARK FOND MEMORIES, MAKE NEW MEMORIES

Some recipes are old family treasures, and other recipes use local ingredients that help define a community or a region. Many of us have favorite recipes that remind us of loved ones or of fond memories, maybe that incredible chicken salad your grandma always made for church potlucks, or that amazing pulled pork your neighbor made for the Memorial Day picnic every year. Sharing recipes feeds not only the body, but also the soul. In the words of writer Henri Nouwen, “Community means that people come together around the table, not just to feed their bodies, but to feed their minds and their relationships.”

Along the same lines, sharing old photos can bring a community together as well. People love to look at old photos and reminisce about how things used to look, or talk about the places they used to go. Or maybe a more current photo will encourage someone to check out a park they haven’t been to yet.

In that spirit, we would love it if you would submit one of your favorite recipes or community photos too, for the chance to have it included in your local Community Resource Guide. If we choose to publish your recipe or photo, we will be happy to give credit to your business or organization. You can forward your submissions to info@totallocal.com. We look forward to seeing your submissions!
